Looking for a unique summer opportunity where you'll take the lead?
Heptagon Hacks is a week long summer program for ZIS students hosted by Heptagon AG. It is capped off with a 24-hour “Internet of Things” hackathon. During this time, students will work in teams to implement and execute IoT projects using Heptagon’s hardware kits, while having access to resources and guidance throughout. Most importantly the hackathon will be a time to generate cool IoT ideas and learn something new!
Why should you apply?
A: You'll work on something you actually want to. We want the internship to be a learning experience so that you can walk away from it a better engineer!
B: You'll learn more about coding. Even if you don't see yourself majoring in computer science at Uni, it's an increasingly important skill to have in any discipline, from finance to bio-engineering, and will set you apart from other applicants to those jobs.
C: You stand out when you apply to universities or future internships - not a lot of high schoolers can say that they've done a hackathon before.
D: After Heptagon Hacks, the student who most demonstrates a passion for learning new things will be invited to complete a longer, more standard 3-5 week internship at Heptagon to work on ther idea and build out their IoT project!
What is a Hackathon?
A 24 hour event where you will get the chance to build something really cool. You will go through the entire process of creating something new: from ideation, to testing, to protoyping a novel IoT project.
What is Heptagon?
Heptagon is provider of sensor solutions and a member of the ams group. With offices located across the world including Ruschlikon, Heptagon strives to innovate in diverse markets with sensor applications, from smartphones, to wearables, and IoT.
What will I be able to make at the Hackathon?
Anything you want related to IoT! You'll be given the resources, help, and hardware to create a successful project, like for example a coffee machine that you can control with your phone, or a device that helps you with the right sitting posture.
Will I be recognized for my work?
You will receive a letter of recognition that you can use as a future reference for when applying to Universities or other internships.
What is IoT?
"IoT" stands for Internet of Things, and is a term to describe cutting-edge technolgies which combine the physical and online world through data, in an effort to improve society. Areas where IoT will make an impact in the future include healthcare, wearables, smart grids/cities, home automation to name a few.
What if I have no experience with programming/hardware?
No experience is needed at all! All the important information and skills that you need to create a cool project will be taught during a one week "bootcamp" before the hackathon, where you'll be able to learn from engineers etc. You can participate even if you've never written a line of code.
Where will it take place?
Heptagon Hacks will take place at Heptagon's office at Moosstrasse 2A, 8803 Rüschlikon, Switzerland
